JOB TITLE: Senior Civil Designer
FLSA STATUS: Non-Exempt
REPORTS TO: Drafting Supervisor
MANAGES: N/A
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS: Occasional overtime as dictated by project requirements.

JOB SUMMARY:
The Designer is responsible for developing, creating and finalizing all phases of the drafting process based on sketches, past examples and information presented by the Engineers.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

• Draft technical details and specify dimensions, materials, and procedures using drawings, rough sketches, specifications and calculations using AutoCAD as directed by design team members.
• Incorporate drafting design standards as established by Company.
• Interface with project design team members at local and/or multiple Company office locations. • Interface with vendors to determine details associated with the drafting effort.
• Incorporate data from applicable sources; specifically sub-consultants such as surveyors into drawings.
• Review and check data supplied by others to verify that the data fits within the project design intent.
• Assist with project file structure maintenance.
• Visit client sites to gather information necessary to complete drawings.

Job Requirements

JOB STANDARDS:

• Associates Degree in Computer Aided Drafting and Design or the equivalent strongly preferred.
• Postsecondary school training in drafting at a technical institute/community college or vocational High School education/certification may be considered.
• Experience with bulk material transport and storage and reclaim systems preferred.
• At least 10 years experience in preparation of site development drawings using AutoCAD Civil 3D (required).

WORKING CONDITIONS:
• Interaction with other team members, as well as supervisors and client personnel.
• May be required to travel out of town on a periodic basis to obtain project field data or attend project meetings.
• Field duties may require outdoor work in a plant, facility or terminal environment.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
• Must be able to lift and carry 20 pounds.
• Sufficient clarity of speech and hearing or other communication capabilities, with or without reasonable accommodation, which permits employee to communicate effectively.

JOB TITLE: Civil Engineer II
FLSA STATUS: Exempt
REPORTS TO: Department Manager
MANAGES: None
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS: Occasional overtime to include weekends as dictated by project requirements.

JOB SUMMARY: The Civil Engineer is responsible for complete site and infrastructure development related to marine terminals, industrial, bulk material handling, and process facilities at new or existing locations. This includes grading, drainage, sanitary sewer, potable, process and firewater, roadway, and railway design applying broad knowledge of principles of practices in civil site design. This involves development of construction drawings, specifications, permit drawings, and NPDES/SWPPP documents, interfacing with clients, local building authorities, and sub-consultants, preliminary and final design of civil features and coordination with installation contractors. This also includes coordinating with and directing Designers and Drafters of civil and other disciplines to accomplish project tasks.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

•Conceptual, preliminary and detail design, related to a variety of marine terminal, industrial, oil & gas facility and bulk material projects.
•Interpreting other project sub-consultant’s work, such as geotechnical and surveyors.
•Must possess a working knowledge of AISC, ASCE, ACI, ASTM, UBC, IBC and other industry and project specific standards and codes.
•Must be familiar with Maritime Security requirements.
•Research and compliance with Project Design, Building Codes, Fire Protection Codes, and local regulations regarding Zoning and Development.
•Formulation of Project Design Criteria.
•Design of site grading, drainage, utilities, roadways and railways.
•Experience with Civil 3D, Land Development Desktop, or a similar land development software suite is required.
•Coordinate and direct drafters in the creation of civil bid and construction level drawings. •Work on multiple projects of moderate size or portions of major projects and ability to function on multi-disciplinary teams.
•Requires a demonstrated ability to perform diversified tasks.
•Strong written and verbal communications skills required.
•Strong organizational skills required.
•Interface with Project Managers, Engineers and clients.
•Prepare and present technical reports and presentations for clients.
•Check drawings and other documents. Verify correctness of design and engineering data to verify completeness of the documents.
•Research, learn and implement differing design techniques which may be industry specific.
•Be familiar with total project systems to include mechanical, structural, civil and electrical components to allow considerations of those aspects into a project or area design.
•Review vendor/fabricator shop drawings.
•Perform the necessary field work to obtain accurate information for the design.
•Additional duties as assigned.

Job Requirements

•PE, or working toward PE registration is preferred.
•Prefer 5+ years experience in engineering design related to Essential Functions.
•Ability to interact with staff at all levels.

•Experience supervising and/or directing the work of drafters or other engineering support staff.
•Availability and the ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously.
•Availability and ability to work overtime as needed based on project.
•Strong written and verbal communications skills.
•Ability to interact with staff at all levels.
•Experience in multiple industries is a plus.

WORKING CONDITIONS:
•Work is primarily conducted in an office environment.
•Interaction with other team members, as well as supervisors and client personnel.
•May be required to travel out of town on a periodic basis to obtain project field data or attend project meetings.
•Field duties may require outdoor work in a plant, facility or terminal environment.
•Working in plant and/or shop areas around production machinery with extreme noise levels. •Must be able to wear safety equipment as required by the safety department for personal protection.
•May be at more than one job site in a day and must be able to tolerate climate changes.

Manager/Engineer Position

Meyer, Meyer, LaCroix & Hixson, Inc. is currently searching for a Manager/Engineer in our Walker, Louisiana office (near Baton Rouge), which covers the Livingston and St. Tammany Parish markets.

Responsibilities include:
  • Identifying prospective clients (meeting prospects, determining their needs, preparing and presenting proposals, entering into contractual agreements)
  • Serving as client sponsor and maintaining relationship with clients
  • Acting as spokesperson for the firm within the community
  • Employing, supervising and evaluating all team staff members, directly or indirectly

LAPELS
is seeking resume submissions for
Enforcement Technical Assistance Position

We are currently accepting resumes for a position as a contract employee to assist the enforcement division of the Louisiana Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors (LAPELS) Board in making more effective determinations regarding potential enforcement issues involving engineering and technical competency.

The candidate must be a Louisiana licensed professional engineer, in good standing with the LAPELS board and if licensed in other jurisdictions, have no disciplinary matters with any other boards.

This position will be responsible for coordinating the development of minimum standards of practice for each discipline. This position will also assist with investigations in determining disposition of cases with technical content involved, and will act as a liaison between LAPELS and reviewing agencies.

The anticipated work week will be 20 hours.
